Webb Simpson says family tests negative

Last Sunday, Webb Simpson won the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town. Three days later on Wednesday, the seven-time PGA Tour winner withdrew from the Travelers Championship “out of an abundance of caution” after a family member tested positive for coronavirus.

But on Friday, just two days after withdrawing from the event at TPC River Highlands, Simpson entered the field for next week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

Why? Because his family got the all-clear.

Simpson took to Twitter to explain how the last week has been a “roller coaster of emotions” and that his family had all tested negative for COVID-19.

When Simpson arrives at Detroit Golf Club, he’ll be the highest-ranked player in the field. The world No. 6 will be joined by fellow top-20 players Patrick Reed (7), Bryson DeChambeau (11), Tyrrell Hatton (16), Tony Finau (17) and Sungjae Im (20).
